Regarding Father Alirio Napoleón Macías. This understated monument commemorates the killing of Father Macías on August 4, 1979. He was one of the 18 Catholic priests murdered in El Salvador between 1972 and 1989. Father Macías was killed by machine gun fire inside the church, near the altar.
The monument and marker were dedicated 31 years after his assassination.
