1. The Severn Building Marker
Inscription. Designed by architect Charles E. Cassell and constructed it 1895. It was purchased by Caswell J. Caplan in 1976 and is still owned by his wife Constance and their children. The family is committed to maintaining and improving Mount Vernon; the park, historic buildings and cultural institutions.

The renovation, completed in December 2001, was designed by Cho Benn Holback and Associates, and funded with assistance from the Maryland Historic Trust and the National Park Service tax credit programs.
