Inscription. Nearby is the site of the original log cabin church established in 1811 by Matthew Bowman. Wm. Winans, circuit rider and leader in Miss. Methodism served as pastor, and in 1815, married Martha DuBose.
 
Erected 1981 by Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
