Richard Parks Bland was an advocate of currency reform, supported the silver standard, sponsor of the Bland-Allison Silver Purchase Act of 1878, and as a result earned the nickname, "Silver Dick." Appropriately, his monument is of white zinc, mimicking the silver he fought for while in Congress.
