Inscription. Battery F, 1st Ohio Light Artillery
4 James, 2 12 PDR. Howitzers.
Hazen's Brigade, Palmer's Division, Crittenden's Corps.
September 20, 1863.
1st Lieutenant Giles J. Cockerill, Commanding.
1st Lieutenant Norval Osborn.
2d Lieutenant James N. Patton.

The Battery came into this position at daylight and constructed a rude breastwork of logs. About 9 A.M. the enemy attacked in strong force, repeating his assaults many times. Notwithstanding the desperate character of these attacks the position was stoutly maintained throughout. Near 2 P.M. the fire on both sides gradually ceased with the exception of that of a few sharpshooters. Received orders at 4 P.M. from one of General Palmer's aides to withdraw to the Rossville road. The Battery limbered up and withdrew, having expended all ammunition but 15 rounds, and encamped for the night at Rossville. Casualties of the day: 1 enlisted man killed; 6 wounded and 2 missing; 2 horses killed and 10 wounded. Casualties of the battle: 1 officer killed; 1 enlisted man killed, 8 wounded and 2 missing; 2 horses killed and 10 wounded.

. I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this tablet and the tablet's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System).”
