Inscription.
The Old Governor's Mansion. Louisiana's White House. The stately Old Governor's Mansion was commissioned in 1929 by Governor Huey P. Long in a style that deliberately mimicked the White House. It replaced a simple frame structure on roughly the same property and served as official residence until 1963. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, the Old Governor's Mansion showcases the furnishings, artwork, and photographs of the nine governors and first families who lived there. Today it is a museum, special events venue, and headquarters for the Foundation for Historical Louisiana.
