Fentress County
Established 1823; named in honor of James Fentress then speaker of the State House of Representatives, an office which he had held for four terms.

Pickett County
Established 1879; named in honor of Howell L. Pickett State Representative from Wilson County in 1879. He later removed to Arizona and practiced law at Tombstone.
