Inscription. Born 1869 near Bastrop. State Senator, 1898-1900; State District Judge, 1900-1906; State Appellate Judge, 1906-1911; Louisiana Governor, 1912-1916; Assistant Attorney General, 1918-1921. Died 1921 and buried in Bastrop cemetery.
 
Erected 1981 by the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.
