Inscription. To the honor of the man who may be called the first and most prominent citizen of Rushville, Rush County, Indiana.

He helped create the County in the Legislature. He surveyed and named it. He built the first house. He located and named the town. He gave the land for the town. He built and taught the first school. He built the Academy and the first mill. He gave $2,000.00 for the first church (Presbyterian).
