1. Compressed Air Engine Marker
Inscription. This engine, powered by compressed air, began operation in the late 1880’s and ceased around 1909. The engine was used to remove gold ore from the Red Point Mine, located approximately 12 miles north-east of Foresthill. This area, mined heavily from the mid 1800’s to the last part of that century, yielded as much gold, for the area of ground being worked, as any other area in California. Nearly five million dollars is believed to have been taken from the mines on the main Foresthill Ridge. Mining equipment donated by Hughes Brothers, Foresthill.
