Great Floridians 2000 marker for Charles Grover Burgoyne | Additional Description:
The marker, mounted on the front of the Merchants Bank Building by the Florida Department of State and Florida League of Cities, honors Charles Grover Burgoyne, who came to Daytona from New York in 1894. He and his wife Mary were arts patrons, paid for area school children to have milk at lunch, and built a large seawall promenade and casino along the Halifax River across Beach Street, which they donated to the city.Submitted: August 26, 2010, by Glenn Sheffield of Tampa, Florida.
