Lady Columbia ... For all the Mothers | Additional Description: At the top of the staircase stands a statue of Lady Columbia, holding a laurel branch. She is reported to represent all grieving mothers. The inscription below the statue, taken from Abraham Lincoln's letter to Mrs. Bixby, reads:
