Additional Description: In 1784 The State of Franklin was organized and the first legislature of the new state met in March 1785. Among the acts passed was that for the division of Greene County into three separate counties. One of which was named Sevier. It embraced the greater part of the territory south of the French Road, extending from the Big Pigeon River to the bridge dividing the waters of the Little River and Little Tennessee. On July 4, 1796 the first court for Sevier County was held under the State Constitution. City of Sevierville Flag Sevieville was established as the county seat of Sevier County, in 1795 one year before Tennessee became the 16th state of the union.
