Hamilton Grange and Marker
Photographer: John Intile
Taken: July 14, 2007
Caption: Hamilton Grange and Marker
Additional Description: This is a photograph of Hamilton's house in upper Manhattan taken by me on 7/14/2007 prior to its relocation from 287 Convent Avenue to St. Nicholas Park on June 7, 2008. Note the dilapidated condition of the wooden porch, the overgrown hedges and the weeds growing through the brick patio on the left. The house was not designated as a national historic landmark until 1960, perhaps reflecting the feelings of ambiguity with which this prolific, dynamic and brilliant but controversial founding father is considered by some Americans to this very day.
