Additional Description: General George Washington, in honor of the bravery shown by the Maryland soldiers during the Revolutionary War, declared that when the Maryland flag and the United States flag are displayed on separate flag poles, the flagpoles should be of equal height and the Maryland flag should be approximately the same size as but never larger than The United States flag.
