Additional Description: (died Nov. 24, 1861) was the first local battle casualty of the Civil War, having been killed during the bombardment of Ft. Pickens, near Pensacola, FL. His body was returned to Milledgeville and buried in a ceremony that the entire city attended. (Memory Hill Cemetery tour)
