Roslin Masonic Lodge No. 86
Photographer: Brian Scott
Taken: March 4, 2011
Caption: Roslin Masonic Lodge No. 86
Additional Description: The lodge in Lowndesville is one of the oldest in the state outside of Charleston. Its warrant was granted on June 4, 1852 to "John Brownlee, W.M., John C. Speer." This is one of the numerous offspring of Clinton Lodge No. 3 at Abbeville Courthouse. The lodge derives its name from the St. Clairs of Roslin, who were for many generations the hereditary Grand Masters of Scotland. The lodge met on the second floor; a general store, operated by Gordon Verdel, occupied the first floor.
