Caption: Prescott’s Headquarters Marker
Additional Description: British General Prescott commanded 4,000 troops during the British occupation of Aquidneck Island. He used the house of Loyalist John Overing as his headquarters in the country. On July 10, 1777, 30 men under the command of American Colonel William Barton came down from Tiverton in longboats, captured Prescott, and brought him back to their camp without firing a shot.
