Caption: Albany Path Ska-Nek-Ta-De Marker - Stanford Mansion on the Move Again
Additional Description: Beyond the Marker is the Stanford Mansion, which at one time stood at the top of a knoll in a park-like setting which, regrettably, suffered from commercial development that removed all the trees from the site and leveled the area for new retail space. Built in the early 19th century, the mansion housed three town supervisors. It later became the home of both the Schuyler and Stanford families, including Leland Stanford, who went on to found Stanford University in California in 1876. It also served many years as the Ingersoll residence for seniors. The home was already moved once, last year, off its original foundation to a spot closer to State Street. In early December of 2011 it was reported the Niskayuna planning board had approved a second move of the building.
