Caption: Model of the U.S.S. Tyler
Additional Description: Delta Cultural Center Collection - The U.S.S. Tyler originally a commercial steamer, was purchased by the federal government and concerted into a "timberclad" gunboat in 1861. It served as part of the western flotilla operating along the Mississippi river and her tributaries. The U.S.S. Tyler was the only naval gunboat present during the Battle of Helena, where her guns were credited with inflicting many casualties among the attacking Confederate soldiers.
