James Wemyss indeed ordered Indiantown Presbyterian Church put to the torch, it was certainly a military calculation and not the result of ethnic or religious prejudice, since, like the Williamsburg rebels he was seeking to subdue, Wemyss himself was a Scottish Presbyterian.
