Muhlenburg's Battery Position West of the Creek | Additional Description: In the later stages of the battle, after 3 p.m. on the 17th, Battery A occupied a position on the ridge just west of Antietam Creek, south of Burnside Bridge. The position is just south of the William McKinley Monument, near the parking area for the Burnside Bridge tour stop. Battery A faced west and helped check Confederate attempts to roll up the Federal lines from the south. The battery was in action close to the copse of trees in the field, on the distant right of the photo, facing to the west (right).
