8th Connecticut Stand.
Photographer: Craig Swain
Taken: March 29, 2008
Caption: 8th Connecticut Stand.
Additional Description: When Harland's Brigade (2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, IX Corps) was ordered forward to support the 1st Brigade, only the 8th Connecticut answered the orders promptly. Looking east from near the monument location. The Brigade was soon spread out too far apart to control. However, the 8th continued it's advance, up the hill here, with the dry creek bed (tree line to the right) on their left flank. When General Rodman, the division commander, was struck down 8th Connecticut men carried him to the rear. Pressured from several sides by infantry and artillery, the 8th Connecticut conducted a fighting withdrawal back to Burnside Bridge.
