Caption: 5th U.S. Cavalry Supports the Artillery
Additional Description: To support the artillery batteries placed on the high ground the 5th U.S. Cavalry advanced to the north side of the Boonsboro Pike. Posted behind the ridge line, the regiment occupied the area to the west of the Newcomer Barn, near the modern house (and former museum) on the west end of the Middle Bridge. The house is seen behind the tree line in the center. The Pike is out of frame to the right side.
