Additional Description: Facing the marker, there is a cannon on the left at the base of the monument, with "J W Callahan Jr" cast in the barrel. There was a steamboat by that name, built in Apalachicola in 1915. John W. Callahan Jr, whose home, built in 1907 and known as the "Steamboat House," still stands in Bainbridge, operated a fleet of steamboats.
