Caption: The 1st Battalion Advances along Antietam Creek
Additional Description: The 1st Battalion of the 12th U.S. advanced along the low ground on the west side of the Antietam around mid day on the 17th. The battalion's advance continued to the high ground overlooking the creek. This photo was taken from the banks of the Antietam Creek, looking west. The field is currently used for pasture and not open to the public.
