Additional Description: The Weldon aqueduct enabled batteaux to pass over Chockoyotte Creek to the basin where goods were transferred to railcars or steamboats. Earthen fortifications, including cannons, guarded this important structure and the western approach to town. - Courtesy Roanoke Canal Museum and Trail.
