Brockenbrough
Photographer: Craig Swain
Taken: March 29, 2008
Caption: Brockenbrough's Battery
Additional Description: During the early phases of the battle, Brockenbrough's Baltimore Battery occupied the position here, in the "elbow" of the West Woods, facing to the northeast. From here, the battery could fire upon the right flank of the advancing 1st Division of the I Federal Corps, moving down the Hagerstown Pike. After 8 a.m., the battery fell back to Hauser Ridge to the west, later confronting the lead elements of Sedgwick's Federals when they attacked through the West Woods.
