In Memory of Private George Baker
Photographer: Craig Swain
Taken: October 23, 2012
Caption: In Memory of Private George Baker
Additional Description: While not directly associated with the Fatal Tree, in the nearby Confederate cemetery is the grave of Private George Baker with another hanging story. Baker enlisted in the 13th Missouri Battery early in the war. Later he deserted and swore allegiance to the Union (possibly serving in some capacity for the Federal Army). He was captured by Confederates and hung on July 28, 1863. Notice the location of the hanging is not mentioned on the stone and is only placed in memory of Baker. The location of his grave, if known, is not mentioned.
