The Medal of Honor
Photographer: Mary Thurman
Caption: The Medal of Honor
Additional Description: The Medal of Honor is the highest award that can be received by a member of the Armed Forces of the United States of America. It is given by the President, in the name of Congress, to an individual who, while serving in the Armed Forces distinguished themselves for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty” while engage in action against an enemy of the United States.
This distinguished Honor Roll includes only a few thousand of the millions of men and women who have served their country in times of war. The names on the Honor Roll include generals and privates, soldiers and sailors, marines and airmen, Americans of every color and creed, from every background of life and every state in the Union. As a symbol of heroism it has no equal in American life.
Therefore, we dedicate this monument to these brave Arkansans who gave their all so that we the living can enjoy the freedom they endowed to us.
