Bancroft Hall, Main (west) Entrance. | Additional Description: Opened in 1909 on the site of old Fort Severn (headquarters of the U.S. Naval Academy since its creation in 1845 under the building's namesake, George Bancroft, (then-Secretary of the Navy). Bancroft Hall is presently the home for some 4,000 midshipmen. It is recognized as the largest single dormitory building in the world.
