Additional Description: After the second Battle of Saratoga on October 7, 1777, British Gen. John Burgoyne and the British Army began a retreat towards Canada. They made it to about a mile south of this location before pausing to build defensive fortifications. Col. Daniel Morgan and his troops were positioned here to help hold the British in place. Burgoyne eventually surrendered his army on October 17.
