Additional Description: Captions: Clubhouse entrance (top center); 8564 Piedmont Springs, Club House, Oakland, Cal. (postcard, top right), George Merra’s candy store. Children learned quickly the soft-hearted Greek candymaker would accept a button from those who had no penny for their candy. (bottom left); For a meeting of Jack London and Ruskin Club in 1901, the menu included oysters on the half shell, striped bass a la Hollandaise, roast chicken, French fried potatoes, English peas, two flavors of ice cream, cakes and fresh fruit. (bottom center); For several years, the tiny turnstile entrance to the park was the city’s post office, the only one the city has ever had. (bottom right).
