King of the Road! Marker
Photographer: Barry Swackhamer
Taken: March 16, 2014
Caption: King of the Road! Marker
Additional Description: Captions: A popular destination was Golden Gate Park, where more than a hundred nearby bicycle shops sold and hired out every imaginable form of cycling machine. In San Francisco it became socially acceptable and common to see women on wheels. In fact, for many women the bicycle was seen as “deliverance, revolution, salvation.”
