Lake George Marker | Additional Description: During the French and Indian War, British Colonel Ephraim Williams with 800 militia and 200 Mohawk Indians was ambushed by French grenadiers, militia and Indian allies under Baron Dieskau in action later referred to as the "Bloody Morning Scout.” Although caught by surprise and suffering heavy casualties, the British defeated the French.
