Caption: Marker in Fort Edward
Additional Description: Fort Edward was known as the "Great Carrying Place" because Indians had to carry their canoes from the Hudson River to Lake Champlain through this area. It was the site of several Forts built during Queen Anne's War and the French and Indian War. It also played a part in the Revolutionary War.
