Site of Fort Edward | Additional Description: Fort Edward was built in 1755 in a wilderness area that the Indians called the "Great Carrying Place" due to the fact that they had to carry their canoes overland from the Hudson River to Lake Champlain. The site of the fort is just west of the Old Moat marker.
