Marker in Saratoga National Historic Park | Additional Description: Col. Thaddeus Kosciuszko was a Polish military engineer and volunteer in the American cause. The fortifications he had constructed in Stillwater were crucial in stopping Gen. Burgoyne's advance on Albany, and led to the surrender of the British Army.
