Municpal Airport, Kansas City, Mo.
Photographer: Postcard by Curteich
Taken: 1942
Caption: Municpal Airport, Kansas City, Mo.
Additional Description: "...The history at the newly rededicated Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport is extensive. Downtown Airport was originally called "Peninsula Field" when chosen by City officials in 1927 as the site of the new City airport. Charles Lindbergh dedicated the airport as "Kansas City Municipal Airport" on August 17, 1927. Lindbergh praised Kansas City at the dedication, indicating that Kansas City had an opportunity to build one of the best airports in the country. Lindbergh's comments were driven in part by the airport's proximity to Kansas City's business district. -- Kansas City Infozine, Kansas City Downtown Airport Rededicated as Charles B.
