Birthplace of the United States Navy Marker | Additional Description: In anticipation of the British invasion fleet of Sir Guy Carleton, Gen. Benedict Arnold established a shipyard here and added three 10-gun galleys and eight 3-gun gundalows to the American fleet. These ships would meet the British at the Battle of Valcour Island on October 11, 1776.
