First Massachusetts Light Battery Monument | Additional Description: Held in reserve for most of the battle, the 1st Massachusetts was under the command of Captain William H. McCartney. When it finally received orders to join the battle on July 3, it went left instead of right and finally returned to the site of the monument to fire shots at the retreating Confederates.
