Battery Position | Additional Description: Four 3-inch Ordnance Rifled cannon represent Wheeler's Battery position. When Dilger's Battery came under heavy fire from long ranged Confederate rifled cannon on Oak Hill, Wheeler's Battery was dispatched to provide support. The New Yorkers were placed under the operational control of Capt. Dilger. In operation throughout the afternoon against both Confederate artillery and Doles' Infantry Brigade, when the main XI Corps lines collapsed, Wheeler's Battery fell back through the town to a new position on Cemetery Hill.
