Additional Description: In 2009 the Rensselaer County Legislature honored two Medal of Honor recipients from the county with a permanent memorial, seen here on display in the third-floor lobby of the Rensselaer County office building on Seventh Avenue in Troy. The memorial honors Lt. Col. William O'Brien and Sgt. Thomas Baker, both from Troy. They died within hours of each other during the World War II battle for Saipan on July 7, 1944. O'Brien's section is on the right of the display.
