Friar Antonio Margil de Jesus Ros Marker
Photographer: J. Makali Bruton
Taken: March 26, 2017
Caption: Friar Antonio Margil de Jesus Ros Marker
Additional Description: Note that the statue of Friar Margil holds a wooden staff. Legend says that he brought a walking stick back from one of his many trips and planted it at the convent. The staff took root and continued to grow into a large bush with thorns in the shape of the cross. The convent sells the cross-like thorns as a souvenir for visitors. It is likely that the staff was from the plant Gleditsia triacanthos L.
