Additional Description: “The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Thomas H. Farnsworth, First Lieutenant (Air Service), U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Thiaucourt, France, September 13, 1918.

After being badly wounded Lieutenant Farnsworth shot down an enemy plane and made a perfect landing. His first thoughts upon landing were for his observer, who had been thrown from his plane during the action. Lieutenant Farnsworth died shortly after being taken to the aid station.”
