Admiral Juan Alejandro Acosta Marker | Additional Description: The bust of Admiral Juan Alejandro Acosta is to the left in this view. To the right, interestingly, is a bust of Admiral José Prudencio Padilla López. Padilla López (b. March 19, 1784, in Riohacha, Colombia – d. February 2, 1828, Bogotá, Colombia) was a Colombian military leader who fought in the Spanish American Wars of Independence. He is best known for his victory in the Battle of Lake Maracaibo on July 24, 1823, in which a royalist Spanish fleet was defeated.
The flag above the monument is of Colombia, presumably in honor of Padilla López.
