Juan José Arévalo Bermejo on his inauguration as President on March 15, 1945 | Additional Description: Juan José Arévalo was the first democratically elected president of Guatemala. It is said that his presidency survived some 25 coup attempts. He served until 1951 and stepped down after finishing his term, passing the presidency to the democratically elected Jacobo Árbenz.
