The Great Seal of the State of North Carolina
Esse Quam Videri | Additional Description: The North Carolina state motto meaning "To be rather than to seem" was adopted in 1893. The seal depicts Liberty, on the left, holding a liberty-cap on a pole and Plenty, on the right, holding three stalks of grain sitting on a cornucopia.
