In 1925, US Route 6 became part of a fledgling interstate highway system. US Route 6 stretched from Cape Cod to Long Beach, California, one of America's first transcontinental highways.

Built on West Street in the 1920s, the Band House (above) was moved to John J. Collins Memorial Park in 1972. The building hosted countless band concerts over the years and served as an aircraft spotting station during World War II.
