Additional Description: On the rear of he support is engraved “Anno 1909/America e Italia ricordano Giovanni da Verrazzano/Fiorentino/che primo Europeo recorrendo altro piu foutuna/dal quale errero il nome/navigo queste acque/le qui terre erano destinate/per una delle citta capital del mondo”, which translates roughly as “In 1909, America and Italy honors Giovanni da Verrazzano, the first European who, through good fortune, sailed these waters whose lands were destined for one of the capital cities of the world."
